The Farm - Beckside Flock

The flock is divided into different breeds selected to suit the different parts of the farm. The adjacent Common is predominately a large hill rising 1800ft above sea level with steep bracken covered slopes. The young Swaledale part of the flock is grazed on the hill in a traditional manner with the sheep hefted.

Numbers are limited in compliance with the High Level Stewardship agreement.

The older Swaledale ewes are grazed on the farm in the valley together with homebred mule ewes (a cross between a Blue Faced Leicester and a Swaledale).

The majority of the progeny are sold as lambs dead weight.
