Glenridding and Patterdale Cleanup 7th Dec

Following the torrential rain brought on by Storm Desmond the village of Glenridding was flooded by rising river levels.

Beckside Construction are in the process of constructing the Hayeswater Hydro Scheme in the nearby Hartsop our two largest excavators plus a telehander were readily available to help. Due to the sheer amount of water that had fallen, gravel and rocks were washed down the hillside and deposited on the riverbed as it flows through Glenridding.

This blocked the river causing it to reroute itself down the street that runs parallel to it, flooding the shops, properties and the Glenridding hotel. The first step needed to return the river to its natural course was to clear out the river bed giving the water somewhere to go.

The JS220 with its steelwrist attachment was the ideal piece of equipment for the job as the steel wrist gives a much higher level of dexterity to the driver.
